A new website just launched promoting A24’s upcoming film A Ghost Story starring Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck. The site features an advertisement for bed sheet ghost costumes claiming that they are built to last, one size fits all and perhaps most eerily like a “second skin”. Buried within the site when one tries to hold and touch to pay, is an 8-minute video that continues the mysterious tones set by the first trailer.  The synopsis released by A24 for a Ghost Story only adds to the intrigue stating:

A Ghost Story Promo Website

Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife, only to find that in his spectral state, he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. Increasingly unmoored, the ghost embarks on a cosmic journey through memory and history, confronting life’s ineffable questions and the enormity of existence.

The 8-minute video shows the mysterious Ghost figure moving ominously through a number of settings before cutting to Mara’s character as she presumably deals with the grief associated with the death of Affleck’s character. A number of questions and nonsequiturs on the nature of existence, the fleetingness of time and holding on flash throughout. Not much to parse through except that Rooney Mara looks absolutely gorgeous throughout.

Coming off the heels of It Comes At Night (another A24 production), there will be questions on whether or not the promotional material is deceptive though as the marketing campaign and the final product for It Comes At Night were drastically different. The current Cinemascore and Audience based Tomatometer score have It Comes At Night is sitting at a dismal D rating and 46% approval rate respectively so one has to hope for better things for A Ghost Story.

Regardless, We put A Ghost Story on our Most Anticipated Summer Movies list a while back and this new site only furthers our anticipation. With glowing reviews from critics and the juggernaut combo of A24’s production and the more talented siblings of the Mara and Affleck families starring (I stand by this statement), This looks to be an early awards contender in the making.

A Ghost Story comes to theaters on July 7th but if you can’t wait that long, we encourage you to check out “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” an indie film from 2013 that is directed by David Lowery (the director of A Ghost Story) and also stars Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck.
